Unlike previous Gorillaz releases packed with guest stars, Damon Albarn recorded this album almost entirely on his own while touring the US. Fun lore fact: according to the band's storyline, bassist Murdoc was sitting in prison at the time, temporarily replaced by Ace from The Powerpuff Girls.
