Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
The cornerstone of Intelligent Dance Music (IDM). Richard D. James recorded these tracks onto cassette tapes in his bedroom using homemade synthesizers and modified equipment. Most of the tracks on the album were written by Richard D. James as a teenager—some compositions were created when he was only 14–16 years old. The numbers 85–92 in the title represent the period during which the compositions were crafted. Part of the material waited nearly seven years for an official release.
Scenario by OBERTY: the time when everything has quieted down and household background noise has faded away. You turn off the room lights and play the first vinyl. Your hearing completely concentrates on the lo-fi texture. This album doesn't demand high volume. On the contrary, the closer you listen, the more you discover: the grainy texture of the cassette recording, the analog warmth, and an atmosphere that seems to dissolve the boundaries of the room. An ideal way to clear your mind before sleep.
